What We Do

MISSION

The Austin Food & Wine Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to fostering awareness and innovation in the Central Texas culinary community through grants, educational programming and events. Guided by an all-volunteer board of directors and committees made up of culinary-and-community-minded professionals, the Alliance’s commitment is to promote Texas food, wine, spirits and craft brews and to increase appreciation of Texas’ culinary impact.

The Alliance is the non-profit partner of the Austin FOOD & WINE Festival in Austin, Texas. As the non-profit beneficiaries of the festival, we receive a portion of the proceeds to give back to the culinary community. This funding goes directly to supporting all aspects of the Alliance’s mission, including our vibrant grant program, signature epicurean events, and broad culinary education resources.

OUR HISTORY

Beginning in 1986, the organization then known as the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival brought winemakers, chefs and and wine-and-food lovers together each Spring in Austin as one of the premier epicurean celebrations in the Southern United States. After 26 years running, the original festival retired in 2011 to make way for a new festival that would now provide funding to a new grant-giving entity supporting the culinary community. The Austin Food + Wine Festival and Austin Food & Wine Alliance, separate but synergistic entities, were formed in 2012.

As the designated beneficiary of the new festival, the Austin Food & Wine Alliance was born with a mission to carry on the original festival’s legacy to give back and foster awareness and innovation in the Central Texas culinary community.

As of 2017, the Austin Food & Wine Alliance has awarded more than $192,500 through its one-of-a-kind grant program to support culinary innovation in Central Texas. By hosting the annual Culinary Arts Career Conference, the AFWA has also provided more than 2,500 high school students with the opportunity to directly connect to professionals from a wide spectrum of career paths in the culinary world.

Austin Food & Wine Alliance is a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The IRS EIN remains 74-2455336 as established under the original name, Austin F&W Alliance.
