Wine & Dine Dinner Series

The Wine & Dine Series offers the opportunity to experience a truly rare, intimate evening with a nationally acclaimed celebrity chef in a unique dinner format. Attendees have the opportunity to get up close with these celebrity chefs and hear from the chef about their culinary philosophy and inspiration while enjoying a special menu with top-tier wine and spirit pairings. Dinners are hosted by Austin’s best restaurants, whose chefs collaborate with the visiting chef to showcase local flavors throughout the menu. Funds raised benefit the AFWA’s Culinary Grant Program.

Chefs who have previously been featured in the Wine & Dine dinners include nationally acclaimed celebrities Jacques Pepin and Emeril Lagasse, along with Austin-based chefs Rene Ortiz, Laura Sawicki and David Bull – all highly awarded chefs.

This year, the popular curated dinner series returns, promising an all-star line-up of mind-blowing culinary experiences with four dinners:

 

Lidia Bastianich at Loca d’Oro; November 8: $350 per personSOLD OUT

Nationally acclaimed cookbook author and PBS-TV host Chef Bastianich will join L’Oca d’Oro Chef Fiore Tedesco, one of StarChef’s Rising Star Austin award winners who brings his Italian family traditions, experience, and vision of gracious hospitality to life at his restaurant.

 


Alon Shaya at Emmer & Rye, September 10: $250 per personSOLD OUT
Includes dinner + an autographed copy of Shaya: An Odyssey of Food, My Journey Back to Israel

Chef Shaya will collaborate with award-winning Emmer & Rye Chef-Owner Kevin Fink, 2018 James Beard Award semi-finalist and the recipient of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs (2016). Fink’s restaurant was named Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurant (2016).


Hugh Acheson at Emmer & Rye, July 30: $250 per person SOLD OUT
Includes dinner + an autographed copy of The Chef and The Slow Cooker

Chef Acheson will collaborate with Emmer & Rye Chef-Owner Kevin Fink, 2018 James Beard Award semi-finalist and the recipient of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs (2016). Fink’s restaurant was named Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurant (2016).


Matt Jennings at Olamaie, June 28: $225 per person SOLD OUT

Chef Jennings will collaborate with Olamaie Chef Michael Fojtasek, who is a 2018 James Beard Award Finalist. Olamaie was named the Austin American-Statesman’s Best Restaurant in 2017.

 

Participating Chefs


Matt Jennings Boston, MA Chef Matt Jennings of Boston’s The Townsman has received four James Beard Award nominations for Best Chef: Northeast and a spot on Food & Wine’s 40 Big Food Thinkers 40 and Under list. Jennings is recognized as a culinary innovator known for unexpected uses of traditional northern ingredients.

Hugh Acheson Atlanta and Athens, GA Chef Hugh Acheson is chef-owner of the acclaimed restaurants Five & Ten and The National, both in Athens, GA, and Empire State South, Achie’s, and Spiller Park Coffee, all in Atlanta. Acheson is the winner of two James Beard Awards for Best Chef: Southeast and Best American Cookbook in 2012. He has competed on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters and was a judge on the hit show Top Chef.

Alon Shaya New Orleans, LA Alon Shaya is chef-owner of the acclaimed Shaya and Saba in New Orleans. The Israeli chef has been nominated for five James Beard Awards and in 2015, was named by the James Beard Foundation as Best Chef: South and a year later, his namesake restaurant, Shaya, was hailed as the Best New Restaurant in the country.

Lidia Bastianich New York City, NY Legendary chef, author, television personality and serial restaurateur, Chef Bastianich is known for Nonna in Italy, Felidia on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and the massively popular Eataly (Chicago/NYC), among others. In her multi-decade career, Bastianich has racked up several James Beard Awards, authored multiple books, and hosted a number of television shows.

Michael Fojtasek Olamaie With a passion for seasonal ingredients and a love of Southern cooking and hospitality, Michael Fojtasek opened Olamaie in Austin, Texas in August 2014. The restaurant brings the taste of the South with a new modern spin to downtown Austin with seasonal dishes and farm-to-table ingredients.

Kevin Fink Emmer & Rye, Henbit Chef Kevin Fink opened Emmer & Rye in late 2015 and was quickly named one of the “Best New Restaurants 2016” by Bon Appetit. Emmer & Rye brings a unique dining experience to Austin, as the restaurant is the city’s first to offer contemporary American seasonal small plates passed on circulating carts as part of their meal.

Fiore Tedesco L'Oca d'Oro As executive chef and owner, Fiore Tedesco brings his family traditions, experience and vision of gracious hospitality to life in L’Oca D’Oro. Ingredients are carefully sourced, pasta is created from freshly milled grains, and the eggplant parm is stacked impeccably.
